The Practice
How we work together.
This isn't talk therapy. It isn't an art class. It's a held, art-led space for creative, neurodivergent humans to externalize, witness, and gently integrate what they're carrying.
The arc
A gentle rhythm of four movements.
1. Discovery
A free 30-minute call to meet, name what you're carrying, and decide together if this space feels right. No commitment, no pressure.
2. Making
Live 1:1 sessions where we use simple materials — pencil, collage, thread, paint — to externalize what's inside. Skill is never required.
3. Reflection
We slow down at the end of each session to notice, name, and gently make meaning together. No interpretation forced on what you've made.
4. Return
Between sessions you can share images, notes, and prompts through your private studio thread — at your own pace.
Inside a session
What an hour together looks like.
Each session is 60 minutes. The shape is the same whether we meet in the studio or over video — only the materials shift.
0 – 10 min
Settling in
We begin with a short check-in. How is your body, your week, your nervous system? You don't need to be articulate — a word, a colour, or a shrug is enough.
10 – 20 min
Choosing a thread
Together we name something to work with: a feeling, a memory, a question, an image already living in you. I offer a gentle prompt or material invitation.
20 – 50 min
Making
You make. I hold the space — quietly nearby, or in conversation, whichever you need. There is no right outcome. The work is in the making, not the product.
50 – 60 min
Witnessing & closing
We look at what emerged with curiosity, not critique. I help you name what you notice, and we close with a small grounding ritual before you return to your day.
Two ways to meet
In-person or over video.
Both formats hold the same arc and the same care. Choose whichever makes it easier for your nervous system to arrive.
In-person sessions
At the studio
Best for those who want full sensory immersion — the smell of paint, the texture of paper, the quiet of a held room. Ideal for working with messier or larger-format materials like clay, ink, or textile.
- 60-minute sessions in a dedicated art-therapy studio
- Full materials library available — no need to bring anything
- Slower transitions in and out of the work
- Easier for somatic and movement-based exercises
Video sessions
From wherever you are
Best for those with limited mobility, travel, or energy — or who simply feel safer making from their own space. The intimacy is different, but the holding is the same.
- 60-minute sessions over a secure, private video link
- Optional posted Studio Pack with curated materials
- Camera angled toward your hands and page, not your face
- Shared digital studio thread for images and notes between sessions
What you'll need
Materials, simply.
You don't need to be an artist, and you don't need to buy anything specialised. Here's what each format involves.
In the studio
- All materials are provided — paper, paint, ink, thread, fabric, clay, collage scraps.
- A warm, low-stimulation studio space with natural light and soft seating.
- Tea, water, and a quiet corner to land before we begin.
- Aprons, gloves, and sensory-friendly tools available on request.
At home, over video
- A simple starter kit you can gather at home: paper, a pencil, scissors, glue, and any colour medium you have (markers, watercolour, pastels).
- A device with a camera you can angle toward your hands or your page.
- A small, contained workspace — a tray or placemat is enough.
- Optional: a posted Studio Pack with curated materials, sent ahead of your first session.
What to expect
A few quiet promises.
You set the pace. Sessions can be talkative or near-silent. We don't push past what your body is ready for.
You keep your work. Nothing made in the studio is shared or analysed without your consent. Images stored in your studio thread are private to us.
No prior art skill. If you can hold a pencil, tear paper, or stir paint, you have everything you need.
Neurodivergent-affirming. Stimming, fidgeting, lying down, looking away, breaks — all welcome. Sensory needs are planned for, not accommodated as an afterthought.
